Inter Miami named Javier Mascherano as the Heron’s latest head coach in November 2024 to replace Tata Martino.
David Beckham and Inter Miami’s owners opted to part ways with Martino following the Herons’ defeat in the MLS play-offs against Atlanta United. He had however overseen the most successful period in Inter Miami’s history following their triumph in the 2024 Supporters’ Shield.
Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano’s past coaching career

Mascherano is still in the early stages of his coaching career having only previously coached at youth level before his Miami move.
Following his retirement from playing, the ex-Barca man moved into coaching – first plying his trade with the Argentina U20 side.
It was there, the veteran defender would end up coaching the likes of Benjamin Cremaschi, Facundo Farías, and Federico Redondo – in the U20 FIFA World Cup 2023.
Mascherano would enjoy success with the Argentine youth sides racking up an impressive tally of 1.97 points per game during his time as U20 boss.
The former Liverpool star’s success would then see him be offered the role of coaching the Argentina national team at the 2024 Olympic games. – they would however be knocked out at the quarter-final stage by eventual finalists France.

Javier Mascherano’s playing career
Inter Miami head coach Mascherano began his illustrious playing career back in his homeland with Argentine giants River Plate.
Success in Argentina would then see him head to Brazil, joining Corinthians for a season – before bagging a move to Premier League side West Ham United.
Mascherano’s stay at the Hammers would be short lived with Liverpool recognising his talents quickly and signing him in 2007.
The defender/midfielder would enjoy three successful seasons at Anfield before securing a dream move to FC Barcelona – where he would link up with the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.
He would spend nine trophy-laden seasons at the Nou Camp registering over 300 appearances for the Catalan side as well as winning every major trophy possible.
Mascherano would eventually leave Barcelona and head to China in 2018 – joining Hebei China Fortune for a single season – eventually finishing his career in 2020 with Estudiantes.
