Inter Miami kicked off the 2024 MLS season with a 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake, with Luis Suarez making his competitive debut for the franchise.

Lionel Messi again controlled the show as goals from Robert Taylor and Diego Gomez were enough to secure an opening day victory for Inter Miami, who now shift attentions to the LA Galaxy on Sunday.

Whilst a win is always a great way to start the season, Inter Miami also managed something that has happened in 14 years, with the Herons breaking a rather unique record.

As per Real Salt Lake’s official website, the Utah-based franchise had the longest unbeaten run on MLS opening day, a record that stretched back to 2009, the year the Claret and Cobalt last won MLS Cup.

However, this incredible run has now been firmly broken by Inter Miami, who last night showed their credentials are real competitors for the MLS title with Messi at the helm.

The Argentine international was simply brilliant on the night, with the forward claiming an assist and almost scoring a few of his own had it not been for some last-ditch RSL defending.

Indeed, Inter Miami were always going to favorites going into this game, yet the Herons showed their quality in a big way last night, and in doing so, broke an impressive MLS record.

Inter Miami got off to an ideal start to the 2024 MLS Season, with three points already on the board and the team in high spirits.

Setting the pace early can be a defining factor in wrapping up a playoff spot, and the Herons will want to maintain this level of energy and enthusiasm against the Galaxy on Sunday.

Indeed, a trip to California will be tricky for Inter Miami against David Beckham’s former side, yet the confidence and quality is there for the Florida side to claim another win in MLS.
