Drake Callender was slammed by Apple TV pundit Taylor Twellman after Inter Miami conceded a 75-yard goal from Al-Nassr’s Aymeric Laporte.

The USA international was embarrassingly caught out in the opening half against the Saudi Arabian side as Laporte’s quick free-kick saw Callender beaten from the Al-Nassr defender’s own half.

It was truly an astonishing goal and one of the best Inter Miami have ever conceded in their short history, yet it was a moment to forget for Callender.

And speaking on Apple TV’s coverage of the match, Twellman was critical of Callender’s positioning and mentality for the goal, with the Inter Miami keeper wanting to forget this moment as soon as possible.

Indeed, it was a good thing this moment happened in a pre-season fixture with no stakes on the line, yet Callender will want to respond after being picked out so easily by Laporte.

Twellman said: “What in the world is Drake Callender doing here? Under no circumstances as a goalkeeper should you be caught on a direct ball from 75-yards out. Wow, what a worldie of a goal.”

It might have been a friendly for Inter Miami, but it was a day to forget for both Callender and the Herons defence, who were dismantled by Al-Nassr with ease.

Any major defeat is going to have an effect on a goalkeeper, yet with Callender conceding a 75-yard screamer, the Inter Miami star will feel it more than most for the rest of pre-season.

There’s no denying that Callender is a great goalkeeper and on his day one of the best in MLS, yet today, the USA international simply had to do better against Al-Nassr, who made a mockery of Inter Miami.
