Lionel Messi has said Inter Miami will look to win MLS Cup despite the Florida franchise sitting eight points off the playoff spots.
Speaking to MLS’ official website, the Argentine superstar revealed that Inter Miami’s objective is to finish in the top-eight of the Eastern Conference, which will qualify the Herons for the post-season.
Messi said: “We’re going to look to hit the objective of being among the best eight to try and win the league. This is the way. We continue growing and obviously winning provides a lot of confidence.”

With Inter Miami having two games in hand on DC United, who currently hold the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the stars are slowly aligning for Tata Martino’s side to do the impossible.
And with Messi yet to suffer defeat as an Inter Miami player, it’s starting to feel like the 36-year-old forward could actually lead the Herons to the MLS championship.
Indeed, with the Leagues Cup already secured and a US Open Cup final on the horizon, a domestic treble could be on the cards if Inter Miami do the unthinkable and make it all the way to MLS Cup.
Inter Miami can win MLS Cup if Messi can stay fit

Even with Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba on their books, nobody could have predicted just how huge Inter Miami’s resurrection would be this summer.
And heading into the final games of the regular MLS season, there’s every chance that Inter Miami could now go all the way and win the championship.
There’s still a long way to go, with the international break meaning Messi will be missing on Sunday to face Sporting Kansas City, but Inter Miami could now be closing in on history.
