Lionel Messi has given his honest verdict on Luis Suarez’s performance for Inter Miami after a 5-0 win for the Herons against Orlando City.

It was arguably the best performance to date in the Messi era of Inter Miami, with the Argentine international scoring a brace as Tata Martino’s side put in a complete display against Orlando.

Yet the star of the match was Suarez, who scored twice and assisted another two as the 37-year-old attacker finally gave Inter Miami fans a performance the supporters have been waiting for.

And speaking to MLS’s official website after the match, Messi was pleased with how Suarez performed on what was the Uruguay international’s breakout match for the Herons.

The striker has been dealing with physical problems ever since signing for Inter Miami, yet Suarez showed last night exactly why the Florida franchise moved to sign the veteran attacker.

Messi said when asked about Suarez’s performance: “I’m really happy for him for scoring. Still, we weren’t worried at all. I think Luis, what he’s capable of doing, everybody knows what he can do.

“It’s like that. When you least expect it, he wins the game for you with the goals and the assists. We’re doing well, we’re enjoying, we’re growing. Today it was important to get the win, to stay on this path of growth. And honestly, it makes us stronger for everything that is yet to come.”

It’s been a slow start to life in MLS for Suarez, with the attacker clearly struggling with fitness and still needing time to adjust to the division.

Yet Saturday’s performance against Orlando was exactly what the forward needed to finally feel at home and to get his career with Inter Miami up and running.

Whilst the Herons’ schedule is only getting crazier from here, Martino and his medical team will need to do all they can to keep Suarez fit, who in this kind of form is simply unstoppable in MLS.
