Apple CEO Tim Cook has detailed Lionel Messi’s impact on MLS having signed for Inter Miami earlier this summer.

Speaking to Business Insider, the American business executive noted his excitement about Apple’s partnership with MLS and how the arrival of Messi will boost the profile of the league.

Popularity in soccer in America is at an all-time high after Messi this summer signed for Inter Miami having left PSG, with the reigning FIFA World Cup champion scoring five goals in three games for his new club.

With Messi set to play for Inter Miami outside of Florida for the first time tonight, the excitement around the Argentine superstar in America has never been bigger, and Apple have struck gold as the sole provider of MLS.

Cook said when asked about Apple’s ten-year partnership with MLS and Messi’s move to Inter Miami: “We are excited about our MLS partnership, and we’re thrilled to see Messi suiting up with Inter Miami.”

“It’s clearly in the early days, but we are beating our expectation in terms of subscribers, and the fact that Messi went to Inter Miami helped us out there a bit – and so we’re very excited about it.”

MLS as a league has improved year upon year since its inception, yet the arrival of Messi will take the division to places that few American soccer fans ever could have dreamed of.

The former FC Barcelona attacker has already shown that he is taking life in the USA seriously with his new club, and Inter Miami now stand to benefit.

As we know, the Herons are now the biggest side in MLS in terms of social media and international followers, and Messi performing week-after-week will only help the American top-flight establish itself as a serious player in the game.
