Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the signing of Diego Gomez, who has left Inter Miami after just two seasons with the Herons.

The Paraguay international this year established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in MLS, with Gomez winning MLS’s 22-Under-22 award and securing an $18m transfer to Premier League side Brighton, a record deal for Inter Miami.

With Gomez sending a heartfelt message to Inter Miami supporters when the move was confirmed this week, the 21-year-old midfielder is all prepared for an exciting new chapter in his career, with the youngster joining one of the most productive clubs in Europe in terms of player development.

And Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has now shared his verdict on Gomez joining the Seagulls.

Hurzeler ‘looking forward’ to working with Gomez at Brighton

Speaking to Brighton’s official website, the German coach revealed how excited he is to work with Gomez, with the Paraguay international set to become available for the south coast side on January 1st 2025.

With Bradley Wright-Phillips lauding Gomez’s ability to shine for Inter Miami alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez when playing in the attack, the youngster could take his career to a whole new level at Brighton, and Hurzeler seems keen to get started with the midfielder.

The former St. Pauli manager said when asked about Gomez’s signing: “We’re looking forward to working with Diego very soon. He has already made a real impression both at club and international level.

“Like all young players who come to us from abroad he will need a period of adjustment to the Premier League, but I feel he can make a big contribution and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Who could Inter Miami sign to replace Gomez in January

The departure of Gomez will leave a big hole in Inter Miami’s squad going into 2025, with the former Club Libertad star capable of playing in midfield and attack having thrived as a Jack of all Trades weapon under Tata Martino.

Yet having recouped almost $20m for Gomez’s sale, the Herons are in a great position to find a replacement for the Paraguay international, with Inter Miami already linked with the likes of Paulo Dybala as a potential superstar signing.

Indeed, Inter Miami have everything needed to find a suitable successor for Gomez, and the midfielder’s absence could be quickly filled by some smart signings from the club’s transfer team heading into January.
