Gerard Pique has now given his verdict on Lionel Messi’s move to MLS last year after the attacker joined Inter Miami from PSG.

The Argentine international completed one of the biggest transfers in recent memory after making the move to Inter Miami just a few months after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

Winning last year’s Ballon d’Or, Messi can lay claim to be one of the best players currently playing and easily the greatest of all-time having achieved virtually everything possible throughout his career.

And speaking to ESPN, Pique has now applauded Messi’s decision to move to Inter Miami, with the former FC Barcelona defender praising the forward’s impact on soccer in the US.

The sport has exploded in popularity since moving to Florida last summer, and Messi’s presence in America could finally lead to soccer becoming the powerhouse that it should really become.

Pique said when asked about Messi’s impact at Inter Miami and where the forward currently is in his career: “I see Leo happy, he fulfilled all his dreams when he started playing.

“The World Cup was the epitome of everything and I think that in Miami he is expanding soccer. With his image and the fact of playing in the MLS, he made the United States gain strength.”

Messi Mania hit the US in a big way last year, with Inter Miami quickly becoming arguably the biggest soccer club in the world outside of Europe.

And 2024 could be when MLS finally hits the mainstream, with Messi capable of launching the league into new heights few would have expected in the division’s infancy.

Indeed, the Argentine can establish soccer as a serious sport in the US for the first time this century, and Messi will want to make this his new mission having won every piece of silverware possible over his career.
