Inter Miami are set to receive a windfall, following the announcement of the Club Benefit Programme, which is rewarding 440 clubs across the globe who saw their players participate in the 2022 World Cup.
Miami defender DeAndre Yedlin was the club’s sole representative at the tournament, as he played for the USMNT in Qatar.
Incoming Miami signing Lionel Messi was awarded the best player of the tournament as he led Argentina to a famous victory, scoring in each knockout round and netting a brace in the dramatic final against France.
Miami earned around $115k for Yedlin’s appearance at the tournament, which ranked them 17th out of 24 MLS teams who gained income as a result of the fund.
How did Miami’s stars fare at the World Cup?
Yedlin played just 31 minutes across USA’s four games, as his side were knocked out by the Netherlands in the round of 16.
The right-back appeared twice, coming off the bench in the USA’s opening draw against Wales, and also appeared in the closing stages of the 3-1 knockout defeat.

Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are both set to move to Miami alongside Messi, and both formed part of the Spain squad which suffered a shock knockout defeat to Morocco.
Busquets captained La Roja and started all four matches as Spain thrashed Costa Rica, before drawing with Germany and losing to Japan before their knockout blow in the round of 16.
Alba started three of Spain’s four games, as he rotated with his successor at Barcelona Alejandro Balde, and he is set to continue in the Spain side, whilst Busquets has quit international football.
Whilst Messi was the face of the World Cup, Miami’s three other stars who appeared at the tournament will be eager to put the tournament behind them.
