Inter Miami have confirmed that they have bought an additional International roster slot from the San Jose Earthquakes.

Miami have spent $150,000 on the slot, which will allow them to register an extra international star, and this could indicate that yet another big name is about to join the club.

Former Barcelona legends Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba have all arrived to play under Gerardo Martino, whilst Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta have been linked.

This extra slot, which Inter Miami have now announced they have purchased, could allow one of Suarez or Iniesta to join the Barcelona takeover of Miami.

How do the International roster slots work?

233 tradable slots for International stars are allocated between the 29 teams in the MLS, with clubs able to operate with more or less than eight in their squad based upon their trading.

This could allow Miami to add another non-domestic player to the squad, meaning there will be room for Iniesta or Suarez to join. However, there is currently no room for another designated player, who can earn outside of the MLS salary caps, with Messi, Busquets and Josef Martinez currently occupying the three spots.

The current players on the international roster in the Miami squad are: Jean Mota, Dixon Arroyo, Corentin Jean, Nicolas Stefanelli, Franco Negri, Sergei Kryvtsov and Diego Gomez, with Jordi Alba set to be registered, and if Suarez or Iniesta were to join within the salary cap, they would take up the new additional space.

The MLS registration window closes on August 2nd, and Miami will have to have the deal in place if they are to add one of these two Soccer legends to their squad, in a bid to climb off the foot of the table.
