Inter Miami are rightly considered the biggest club in the United States after the arrival of Lionel Messi, yet they’re not officially in for next year’s FIFA Club World Cup.

The annual competition will be revamped in 2025 to become a club edition of the FIFA World Cup, with the tournament held once every four years and comprised of the best teams from across the world in one event.

With the first edition of the revamped tournament taking place in the United States, MLS get to nominate a host club to take part in the competition, with Inter Miami the obvious candidate for the spit given their worldwide status and their current standing in the Supporters’ Shield race.

And manager Tata Martino has now shared if he wants Inter Miami to compete at next year’s Club World Cup.

Martino wants Inter Miami in next year’s Club World Cup

Speaking to the press, Martino shared his enthusiasm on Inter Miami taking part in next year’s revamped Club World Cup, which will take place midway through the 2025 MLS regular season.

Martino said: “We have goals for this year, what’s ahead of us, but the other part and how we qualify will be determined by those whose turn it is to decide. Obviously we would like to, who wouldn’t like to participate in the Club World Cup?”

With the competition taking place in America and the Seattle Sounders the only MLS side currently qualified for the tournament, Inter Miami also competing in the Club World Cup makes a lot of sense given their superstar roster.

And for the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, it could be one of the last times these legendary players get to face the best clubs in the world, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG set to compete at the Club World Cup.

Inter Miami should want to compete in next year’s competition

The Club World Cup has come under fire from a number of officials from European clubs given how many fixtures it adds to an already ridiculous schedule for top players who are also regulars for their international teams.

Yet for sides like Inter Miami, the Club World Cup is a fantastic competition to show the world what they’re capable of against other teams from across the globe having had few opportunities to show their quality.

Indeed, clubs outside of Europe will be jumping at the chance to compete in next year’s Club World Cup, and Inter Miami look set to be nominated as the host team, especially if they go all the way in MLS Cup.
