Inter Miami has announced the re-signing of Brazilian midfielder Gregore to a contract extension.
Gregore initially joined Miami in the winter of 2021, where he would go on to have an MVP-caliber season, ending the year with 29 interceptions and 30 clearances. In March 2023, he suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury during Miami’s 1-0 loss away at NYCFC.
Since then, the 29-year-old has been working his way back from injury, with the hope of being fully fit for Miami’s upcoming friendly tour in China.
Inter Miami Sporting Director Chris Henderson had this to say when asked about his decision to re-sign the Brazilian: “Gregore is not only our engine in the middle of the field, but a leader both on and off the pitch. We’re excited to see him return soon and continue to build an exciting team with him moving forward.”
Inter Miami’s midfield destroyer

Before he got injured in early March, Gregore was a crucial player in Inter Miami’s starting lineup.
As the club continues to grow into the Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets era, Gregore’s skill set will complement the team’s new-look midfield.
Gregore excels at cleaning up defensive mistakes. He’s at his best when he can prevent the opposition attack from going forward, and works nicely alongside another midfielder who can progress the ball up the pitch.
According to FBRef’s advanced statistics, in 2021, Gregore was winning 1.56 tackles in the defensive third per 90, the highest out of any player on the roster that season.

When he returns to full fitness, Gregore’s best position will be to play alongside Busquets. He has incredible defensive timing, and the engine needed to let Busquets do what he does best.
It’s unfortunate that a long-term injury kept him on the sidelines. But, as Inter Miami inches closer to 2024, Gregore will be a key player in their hunt to win more silverware.
