Inter Miami midfielder Julian Gressel is reportedly struggling to find rhythm with his new teammates having reunited with Tata Martino this year.

The USA international joined the Herons having won MLS Cup with the Columbus Crew last year, the second time the Germany-born winner has won the biggest prize in American soccer.

A former Atlanta United star under Martino, Gressel joined the Argentine coach in Florida this winter and looked like a match made in heaven, with MLS experience needed if Inter Miami are to win the title.

However, as reported by the Miami Herald, the 30-year-old is yet to really connect with his new teammates, with Gressel not the only Inter Miami player struggling having joined this year.

Designated Player Luis Suarez has struggled to perform despite reuniting with former FC Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, with the striker also looking unfit in matches.

Yet for Gressel, the versatile midfielder’s issue seems to be down to understanding a new team with new teammates, despite the USMNT star once again playing under former Atlanta coach Martino.

Indeed, Gressel has become something of an MLS journeyman since leaving Atlanta, yet Inter Miami could be the place the forward now calls home given how ideal the conditions are.

Gressel’s best year in MLS came during Atlanta’s MLS Cup winning year under Martino, with the likes of Josef Martinez and Miguel Almiron leading the Five Stripes to the grandest prize in the land.

And whilst Gressel has underwhelmed in Florida, the 30-year-old has the drive and the mentality to make a real impact at Inter Miami and to become a star for the Herons this season.

As mentioned, experienced heads in MLS are key for any club looking to go the distance in the title race, and Gressel provides just that for Inter Miami, with Martino the man who can unlock the midfielder’s true potential.
