The man who brought Lionel Messi to Inter Miami will see his contract expire at the end of the season.
According to the Athletic, Inter Miami Sporting Director Chris Henderson’s contract expires at the end of 2023. With Miami yet to extend the agreement, there are potential question marks surrounding his return.
After leaving the Seattle Sounders, Henderson joined Inter Miami in early 2021, restructuring the roster in a way that made the team competitive despite the heavy sanctions they received after breaking Major League Soccer spending rules.
In 2022, under Henderson’s guidance, Miami finished sixth in the Eastern Conference, clinching their first appearance in the MLS Cup playoffs.
Since then, Henderson’s clever behind-the-scenes work led Miami to a place where they were able to sign the likes of Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in the summer.
Inter Miami laying the foundation for 2024

Inter Miami had a historic 2023 season.
Not only did they win their first trophy in club history with the Leagues Cup, but they also signed the greatest player of all time.
Henderson is a big reason why they were able to have such success.
After spending 13 years with the Seattle Sounders, Henderson brought his MLS Cup-winning expertise to Miami. As the team pivots to next year, they will want to challenge for more silverware.
However, with Henderson yet to sign a new contract with the club, the direction the team may go is also unclear.
All in all, Miami has a smart man in Henderson at their front office. Though he hasn’t extended his contract, the likelihood of Miami keeping him at the club is high.
It’s only a matter of time before Inter Miami’s owners put pen to paper before other MLS clubs look to acquire his services.
