La Liga president Javier Tebas has tipped Lionel Messi to one day leave Inter Miami to finish his career for good at FC Barcelona.

The Argentine winger has been linked with a return back to the Catalonian giants ever since Messi left the club in 2021, with the superstar since playing for PSG and now Inter Miami.

At 36, it’s expected that this spell in MLS will be Messi’s final career move before retiring as the greatest soccer player the game has ever seen, with Inter Miami expected to win more silverware this season.

Messi one day making a return to Barcelona seems to be one the agenda for the La Liga giants, with the league itself now seemingly keen for the move to one day happen.

Speaking on Kick, La Liga president Tebas has predicted that Messi will one day return to Barcelona to end his playing days with the club that started it all for the attacker.

Tebas said when asked if Messi will ever play again for Barcelona after leaving three years ago: “Personally, because of Messi’s and Barca’s desire, I saw it as close.

“When there is that affection, many economic issues are left aside. I saw it as possible. I saw it as close. I am sure that Messi would like to retire at Barca.”

Messi returning to Barcelona is the stuff of dreams, even with the biggest of Inter Miami fans admitting that the forward playing for his former club one last time would be quite the spectacle.

Yet from everything we know about how quickly Messi has settled in Florida and how much the Argentine seems to enjoy living in the States, a return to Barcelona seems unlikely.

Indeed, Messi seems eager to get going with Inter Miami and to leave a lasting legacy in MLS with the Herons, who this year could create some real history.

And whilst a return to Barcelona would be incredible, Messi himself seems to realise that such a move might not be possible given where he now is in his career.
