Inter Miami striker suffers an injury setback

Inter Miami’s young star striker Leonardo Campana is ‘day to day’ after being substituted out during the team’s 1-1 draw against NYCFC on September 30th with muscle discomfort.

The Ecuadorian’s injury is just one of many ailments that the team is currently dealing with, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba.

Campana is one of Inter Miami’s most potent forwards.

The 23-year-old has racked up nine goals and two assists in 1,461 minutes played this year, forming a solid partnership with Messi.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first injury Campana has dealt with this year, either. Earlier in the season, the striker was out for eight games with a calf injury and just recently worked his way back to full fitness.

The team will hope that the forward will be able to recover in time before their next home game against FC Cincinnati on Saturday, October 7th.

When asked about Campana’s recovery by the Miami Herald, head coach Tata Martino said, “Leonardo Campana will rest this upcoming game and will continue to evaluate him regarding the discomfort he had in the previous game to see if he will play against Cincinnati.”

Who will Inter Miami turn to?

With Campana out for Inter Miami’s crucial match against the Chicago Fire, the team may pivot toward former MLS MVP Josef Martinez.

While Martinez may not be a fan favorite, he has the ability to score goals when Inter Miami needs them.

The Venezuela international also has experience and a calmness to his game that will be important for the Herons in the absence of Campana.

Miami may also look to younger winger Facundo Farias and Finland international Robert Taylor to help bolster the attack.

The South Florida team will need every point they can get, as they sit just four points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With four games left in the season, there is no room for error if they want to make the playoffs.
