Inter Miami are moving fast in the January transfer window, with the Herons linked with a new player seemingly every day.

This week alone has seen Inter Miami linked with Colo-Colo defender Maximiliano Falcon, whilst Javier Mascherano has also made an enquiry for Sao Paulo center-back Nahuel Ferraresi as the Herons look to improve their defense.

Another defender Inter Miami have been rumored with is Uruguay international Gaston Silva, with the 30-year-old spending the last three years with Mexican giants Club Puebla, a team the Herons faced last year in Leagues Cup.

Yet Inter Miami now have a golden chance to sign the former Independiente star this January.

Taking to Instagram, the 19-cap Uruguay international announced his departure from Puebla, with Silva now a free-agent with Inter Miami likely to sit up and take note of this transfer decision from the South American defender.

Silva wrote: “Grateful to Club Puebla for these two-and-a-half years of many unforgettable moments. I thank every person from utilities, masseuse, medical body and the nutrition area for always making me feel at home. today we have to take different paths but La Franja will always be part of my heart. Thank you.”

Indeed, Inter Miami are fully aware that central defense is their main area of the squad that needs improving this January, with the Herons having one of the worst records in MLS last season when it came to goals conceded.

And with Silva now a free-agent, Inter Miami have an easy path in securing a top defender with zero obstacles in their way, with the center-back, who has played alongside Luis Suarez at international level, ideal for the Florida franchise.

Mascherano should jump at the chance to sign Silva

Mascherano joined Inter Miami last month in what was an ambitious appointment for the Herons given the Argentina coach’s lack of experience managing at club-level, yet the sort of players the former FC Barcelona defender is targeting is an encouraging sign.

Inter Miami were explosive and deadly in the attack but disorganized and chaotic at the back, and in Mascherano targeting defenders, the new Chase Stadium manager is making a good step in trying to make the Supporters’ Shield holders a more cohesive unit.

As a result, Mascherano should jump at the chance to sign Silva, who adds experience and quality in a top division in Liga MX to a side in Inter Miami, who need both desperately this January.
