Inter Miami will not sign former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, despite the midfielder being spotted at the club’s training facilities.

The 32-year-old is a free agent, following his release from Nottingham Forest, and was pictured at the training facilities in Miami in recent days.

However, it has now been confirmed that Lingard will not join the club, as there is no intention to bring him in.

Sports writer Michelle Kaufman revealed that Lingard was at the training facilities as part of a sponsor promotion, rather than to negotiate a transfer to the club.

Should Miami pursue a move for Lingard?

With Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets already coming in, Miami are about to add a lot of quality to their midfield, whilst Josef Martinez has been performing well up front, having scored a stunning late equaliser against Columbus last night.

There is a more urgent need for defensive reinforcements, and despite the probable arrival of Jordi Alba, Miami are bottom of the league with 31 goals shipped in 20 games.

Although Lingard could be a high profile signing, as a former England and Premier League star, given his injury record in recent seasons, as well as the fact that Messi is already being brought in, he would be unlikely to make a big impact in this campaign.

Lingard had a lengthy spell at Man United after progressing through their academy, but after a difficult few years he went out on loan to West Ham.

It was in East London that he restored his confidence and reputation two years ago, but he has failed to deliver since, and his poor spell at Nottingham Forest has shown that he may not be worth signing as a potential difference-maker at the bottom side in the MLS.
