EAFC 24 is never far away from controversy, and the latest episode surrounding the video game involves Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi.
With the start of the year comes the much-anticipated Team of the Year season on Ultimate Tea, the most popular feature in EAFC and a huge source of revenue for the company.
Yet this year’s roll-out has been different of sorts, with thousands of players getting lucky and packing Messi’s 97-rated Inter Miami TOTY card, yet it appears this has all been a mistake.

As per Dextro, thousands of EAFC Ultimate Team players have managed to secure a TOTY Messi card, one of the rarest and best in the entire game, and a technical glitch could be the cause.
Messi’s MLS status has caused the coding the game to think that the reigning Ballon d’Or holder is a less valuable card than the likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, meaning more players are being awarded the Argentine.
As a result, Messi TOTY cards are now awash in the game, with controversy now reigning over how many players now have the 36-year-old in their collection despite the rarity of such a card.
Lionel Messi’s EAFC controversy is nothing short of hilarious

EA Sports are hardly anyone’s favorite gaming company, with the creators of EAFC known for their pay-to-win methods and minimal if any improvements over the life cycle of a single game.
Which is what makes this latest controversy such an entertaining read, with EAFC’s own mistake coming back to bite them and in turn gift thousands of players with one of the best cards in the entire game.
Given how much some players pay to even have a chance of acquiring a TOTY Messi card, there’s beauty in EA’s stupidity gifting people something few would ever dream of owning in the game.
