Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez last night made history at the Copa America after Uruguay’s penalty shootout win against Canada in the third-place play-off match.
The 37-year-old attacker played over an hour of soccer for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in their fixture of the Copa America, with Uruguay winning 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 2-2, with Suarez scoring a late equalizer to send the tie into extra-time.
Scoring the winning spot-kick, it was a fantastic night for Suarez, who before last evening’s result had hardly played for Uruguay in what could be the Inter Miami star’s last-ever international tournament given his age and fitness.
And Suarez ended up making history for Uruguay on the night in their third-place play-off win.

Suarez becomes oldest Copa America goalscorer of all time
Suarez’s late heroics for Uruguay against Canada saw the striker become the oldest goalscorer in the entire history of the Copa America, beating the record set almost 70 years ago by former Argentina striker Angel Labruna.
With Inter Miami teammate Lionel Messi the fourth-oldest goalscorer in the Copa America after his striker against Canada earlier in the week, it’s been a record-breaking few days for the Herons’ attackers, with the Argentine setting another incredible feat.
Indeed, Suarez will go down as one of the most legendary strikers in the history of South American soccer, with the forward already the all-time leading scorer for the Uruguay national team heading into the Copa America this summer.
And returning to Inter Miami later this month, the Florida franchise will hope Suarez can bring the goalscoring touch that Tata Martino’s side have been missing in recent weeks, along with Messi.

Suarez will be fired up returning to Inter Miami and MLS action
The Copa America could not have gone any more perfect for Inter Miami in regards to Suarez, with the striker being well rested throughout the tournament and still coming away with a goal and a new record in the bag.
And with the striker set to return to MLS action later this month, Suarez will be fired up and eager to get back to work with Inter Miami, who will want to see the best from their star center-forward in the coming weeks.
With Leagues Cup around the corner, Inter Miami will want to make a big statement with Suarez and Messi soon back on their books, and the Herons will want to retain their title having gone all the way last year.
