Jose Martinez has heaped praise on Inter Miami teammate Sergio Busquets, with the striker joking that he prefers playing with the midfielder than Lionel Messi.
Speaking to journalist Franco Panizo, the Venezuelan international was full of positive quotes about the former FC Barcelona captain, who has settled in nicely at Inter Miami since joining the club earlier this month.
Busquets registered an assist in his first full start for Inter Miami in a 4-0 win against Atlanta United, with Martinez also impressive as Messi bagged a brace in a sensational performance for the Argentine.
Whilst the headlines have of course all been about Messi and the soccer legend, Martinez has been just as amazed to play with Busquets, an icon in his own right in the game after becoming a superstar for Barcelona and Spain.
Indeed, the midfielder has settled into life in MLS like it was nothing, and Busquets is already winning plaudits from his new teammates, with Martinez astounded by the quality on show from the Catalan star.
Martinez said when asked what it’s like to play alongside Busquets: “I think he is a genius. I prefer Busquets than Messi (laughs). He is amazing. He is very smart.”

Messi has rightly taken most of the spotlight given his undisputed states as the greatest of all time, yet Busquets impact for Inter Miami could be just as big, and the midfielder’s genius is now getting through to the likes of Martinez.
The South American forward is experienced enough to know what world-class talent looks like, and Busquets has that in droves despite his age, with the former Barcelona star now one of the best in MLS by some margin.
With Busquets in midfield and Messi in the attack, Inter Miami are becoming a force in America, and Martinez will be one of many players in the squad that will benefit from this influx of quality talent in the team.
