The Miami Herald’s Michelle Kaufman has detailed how bad Lionel Messi’s injury is after Argentina announced the Inter Miami star won’t feature in the international break.
The 36-year-old attacker missed the Heron’s 3-1 win away to DC United after picking up a leg injury against Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup last week, with Messi coming off in the second half.
With Tata Martino and Inter Miami’s medical team being very cautious with how much they use Messi, news that Argentina wouldn’t select the forward increased fears that the attacker’s injury is worse than first thought.
Lionel Messi injury only ‘mild’ despite Argentina absence

However, speaking on Inside Inter Miami, Kaufman revealed that Messi’s injury is only a mild hamstring strain, which if treated right will see the attacker return to action soon.
Messi’s fitness is of the utmost concern for Inter Miami, and the 36-year-old missing out on this international break with Argentina could be massive in his road to recovery.
Kaufman said when asked about the latest on Messi’s newest injury: “The latest is he has a mild hamstring strain.
“It’s not anything serious but anyone who’s had a hamstring issue knows that it’s something you don’t want to mess with because you can aggravate it. It’s been a recurring issue with him.”
Inter Miami need Lionel Messi back for next month

With Messi missing the international break this month with Argentina, Inter Miami need to ensure that they get the forward’s recovery pan executed correctly.
The attacker will be key for the Herons if Martino and his side are to progress in the Champions Cup, a competition Messi will be eager to win for Inter Miami.
And rest and recovery is the best shot Inter Miami have at Messi being fit enough to compete in the quarter-final against Monterrey, who will be a big test for the Florida franchise.
