LAFC manager Steve Cherundolo has said he is not focussing on Lionel Messi ahead of Inter Miami’s visit to Los Angeles tonight.

Speaking to the press via Deadspin, the MLS coach revealed that he and his squad aren’t making the mistake of zoning in on what Messi can do tonight against the reigning MLS Cup holders.

LAFC have been one of the best sides in the league this season and will tonight face Inter Miami in what will be Messi’s first game in Los Angeles for Tata Martino’s side.

Still yet to lose a game since signing, LAFC will be looking to end Inter Miami’s unbeaten run with Messi in the squad, a prospect that could be likely given the quality of the MLS side.

And Cherundolo’s preparation for the all-star clash tonight seems to be the right one, with the LAFC manager not throwing his full attention into how to stop Messi.

Cherundolo said: “For us, it’s another home game that we want to win. I think it’s a mistake to focus on one player, he’s not the only one scoring and making a difference.”

Inter Miami have passed most tests since Messi’s arrival, yet tonight could be their biggest one with a road trip to LAFC.

The Los Angeles side are one of the best sides in MLS and the reigning league champions, and Messi and company will want to make a statement tonight.

With LAFC prepared for battle, Inter Miami will need to bring their A-game if they’re to best the Californian giants, with Messi a player the hosts will have to keep an eye on all match.
