Luis Suarez this week announced his retirement from the Uruguay national team, bringing an end to an incredible 17-year career on the world stage.
The Inter Miami striker calls time with Uruguay having won the 2011 Copa America, four FIFA World Cup appearances and establishing himself as his nation’s all-time leading goalscorer, a record that is unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.
With Suarez announcing in a press conference why he’s retiring from Uruguay now, the world of soccer has united in sending messages of support to the 37-year-old attacker after stepping down from such an important part in his career.
And Lionel Messi has of course given his support to Suarez after the decision.

Messi praises Suarez on Instagram after Uruguay retirement announcement
Taking to his official Instagram stories, the Inter Miami captain shared a message of support to his long-term teammate, with Messi posting: “You’re unique, Luis Suarez, on and off the pitch!!!. I love you so much.”

Suarez has arguably been Messi’s closest friend in soccer with the duo forming part of the most dangerous attack the sport has ever seen during their FC Barcelona days alongside Neymar, where the Inter Miami pair won the treble.
With Messi and Suarez reuniting this year at Inter Miami, the pair have again rekindled their incredible partnership on the pitch, with the attacking superstars playing their part in getting the Herons to the post-season play-offs.
And with Suarez now out of the international picture, the striker can solely focus on playing for Inter Miami, where the attacker will want to give it his all alongside Messi heading into the final weeks of the season.

Suarez will want to win everything possible with Inter Miami
Suarez is one of the most decorated players in soccer history, with the Uruguay striker only missing a few notable pieces of silverware from his trophy cabinet compared to Messi.
Yet with the attacker now focused on Inter Miami, the forward will want to win everything possible for the Florida franchise in the remaining weeks of the MLS season.
With Suarez’s contract yet to be resolved, it’s currently unknown if the attacker will continue at Inter Miami next season, yet the Herons will be hopeful that the veteran superstar opts for one more year.
