Luis Suarez has issued an injury update ahead of Inter Miami’s pre-season tour, with the striker suffering from chronic knee problems.

The Uruguay international is entering the twilight years of his illustrious career, with Suarez coming off the back of a hectic season with Brazilian side Gremio.

The former FC Barcelona and Liverpool striker played over 50 games last year, scoring 26 goals and assisting 17 in what was an outstanding campaign for the 37-year-old striker.

And speaking to the Miami Herald ahead of Inter Miami’s pre-season tour, Suarez revealed that his knee injury is manageable, with the veteran forward dealing with chronic problems for years.

Indeed, Suarez’s fitness will be of the utmost importance for Inter Miami this year, and keeping the attacker fit could be the difference between silverware and disappointment for the Herons.

Suarez said: “Right now I feel very good, I don’t need anything other than normal physical therapy that all players get in the preseason. I was able to train with no discomfort, and that made me happy.”

Inter Miami are no strangers to overworking their star players, with Lionel Messi’s crash last year a direct result of the Florida franchise not giving the Argentine international rest when needed.

And after last season, Inter Miami should have learnt their lesson by now that keeping their best players fit and healthy is what will lead them to the playoffs and potential glory in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

As a result, Inter Miami have to stay on top of Suarez’s fitness, with the Uruguay international a player who could transform the Herons into one of the best MLS sides the division has ever seen..
