Inter Miami have a commanding lead in the Supporters’ Shield race after Saturday’s 2-0 win against FC Cincinnati.

A record-breaking performance from Luis Suarez confirmed the three points for the Herons and put Inter Miami four points clear at the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings with a game in hand.

With eight games left to go, there’s a real chance that Inter Miami can finally win their first piece of silverware this year in the form of the Supporters’ Shield, which will qualify the Florida franchise for next year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup.

And former USA international Maurice Edu has shared if there’s a chance Inter Miami could slip up in the Supporters’ Shield race.

Inter Miami tipped to win the Supporters’ Shield with no issues

Speaking on This Is MLS, the former Rangers star still believes Inter Miami have what it takes to win the Supporters’ Shield with no issues, with the Herons unlikely to slip up in their current position.

With Lionel Messi back in training, Inter Miami are only going to get better, and the Herons will be determined to finally win silverware after missing out on the Champions Cup and Leagues Cup titles.

Edu said when asked who he thinks will win the Supporters’ Shield this year: “I’m going to take my money and put it on Inter Miami. This 2.0 version of the team with Messi, Busquets, Alba, etc, was built to win titles, to win competitions, to be the best in the league.

“They have one of the deepest rosters, they’re already four points clear of the LA Galaxy and eight points ahead of FC Cincinnati, and baring an absolute disaster on their part at the end of the regular season and another team performing and being perfect, I can’t see Inter Miami dropping the ball.”

Nobody is stopping Inter Miami in MLS this year

Inter Miami have been nothing short of incredible this summer, something nobody expected with Messi out away at the Copa America and then ruled out for a month due to injury.

Yet at last, Tata Martino has managed to gel the squad in a way that has made Inter Miami unstoppable at times in recent games, and that trend looks set to continue in the remaining fixtures of the season.

Indeed, the Supporters’ Shield already looks to be in the bag for Inter Miami, and the Florida franchise will want to go one step further in the post-season by winning MLS Cup in convincing fashion.
