It’s always special when Lionel Messi can chat with a fellow legend of the game.
In a brilliant discussion put together by Adidas, Messi and Zinedine Zidane had a 30-minute chat about their lives, careers, and why the number 10 role in football is disappearing.
The Argentine went into detail, explaining how the current systems in football don’t allow for creativity on the field: “It’s been lost a lot now. The position that I had before reflected that I was the [enganche], now with the 4-3-3 or 4-2-2-2, it is true that there are few left. The 10 does not fit in those systems or it is difficult to put him in.”
The duo also went on to talk about Diego Maradona.
Messi spoke about the former Napoli star and how he molded his game after the late attacker: “Later I saw videos. He is our reference, our idol. For us Diego is something very strong that will be around for many, many years to come, I have no doubt.”
Finally, the conversation ended with the pair expressing their mutual admiration for each other and how they wished they could’ve played together: “I admire you a lot, we were not lucky enough to play together. But we did play against each other a little bit. Always respect and admiration for what you did and continue to do.”
Lionel Messi: A Legend of the game

Zidane unfortunately hasn’t had the luxury of watching Messi play for Inter Miami this season, but with 2024 approaching, the World Cup winner will have plenty more opportunities.
Inter Miami finished this season on a sour note, failing to make the playoffs despite winning the Leagues Cup this summer.
The roster is set to undergo a slight revamp, with Luis Suárez reportedly set to join the team
Many Inter Miami fans are excited for what’s to come next season.
With Suárez reuniting with his ex-Barcelona teammates, it looks like Miami is re-creating its own version of Real Madrid’s Galacticos in South Florida.
