Houston Dynamo captain Hector Herrera has publically backed the Texan MLS franchise to compete with Inter Miami next season.

The Mexican international has been a revelation for the Dynamo since joining in 2022, with Herrera leading Ben Olson’s side to the US Open Cup, beating Inter Miami in the final.

With all eyes looking ahead to the 2024 MLS season and what Lionel Messi and company can do for Inter Miami, there’s a real chance that the Herons can dominate the league if all the gears click.

However, speaking to AS, Herrera has now tipped the Dynamo to be ready to compete with Inter Miami, who are the overwhelming favourites to win everything next season.

Herrera said when asked about facing Inter Miami in MLS this year: “I think facing them will be a great motivation for teams in the league.

“Being able to compete well with them and hopefully being able to tell your grandchildren that you were able to beat them.”

Inter Miami should heed Hector Herrera’s MLS warning

For many neutrals, Inter Miami are expected to walk MLS next season, winning every game by five clear goals as Messi continues to make a mockery out of the league.

However, this is real life we’re talking about, and there’s a real chance that Inter Miami’s fantastical expectations will not be met next season, even if the Herons should be aiming to win everything.

Indeed, Tata Martino saw first hand in the US Open Cup that success isn’t guaranteed even with a player like Messi on your books.

And for Inter Miami, they can’t be heading into the new MLS season thinking everything is already a wrap, with teams already looking to best the Herons at their own game.
