Inter Miami’s MLS rivals Orlando City are reportedly closing in on a new superstar signing in Luis Muriel, a player Lionel Messi will know well.

The Atalanta striker and Colombian international has been around the European scene for quite some time, with the 32-year-old attacker plying his trade in Italy and Spain over the last 14 years.

Yet it is in Bergamo where Muriel has really thrived, with the attacker scoring an impressive 68 goals in 184 appearances for Atalanta in all competitions, who in recent years have been excellent in Serie A.

However, Muriel’s time in Spain is when Messi last met the attacker, and as per Barca Universal, it’s where the Colombian learnt to never celebrate in front of the now-Inter Miami superstar.

In a game for Sevilla back in 2018, Muriel made the score 2-0 for the Andalusian side against Barcelona, with the striker celebrating the goal right in front of Messi, who was warming up on the touchline.

As you can expect, one does not simply celebrate in front of Messi, with the Argentine being brought on and scoring a last-minute equalizer to steal a point for Barcelona against Muriel’s Sevilla.

Messi is expected to make MLS his newest playground next season, with the Argentine international ready to lead Inter Miami to glory in the division and beyond.

Yet for Muriel and Orlando, the incoming forward will not want to tempt fate yet again with Messi, especially given how fierce the Florida Derby could be this season.

Indeed, whilst the Colombian is an incredible addition to MLS, we all know what Messi can do, and the 36-year-old will want to get on Muriel’s bad side yet again in order to get Inter Miami across the finish line.
