Inter Miami may be after another Barcelona star.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, current Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto is being linked to a move to MLS, more specifically, Inter Miami.

Roberto is searching for his next club after it was announced that he will be leaving Barcelona at the end of the 2024 season.

The 31-year-old has seen limited playing time under manager Xavi this year, only clocking in around 227 minutes in all competitions. Roberto will look for a new challenge this summer, after 17-years with the club.

The midfielder joined Barcelona’s academy in 2008 at age 16. Just two year later in 2010, Roberto would make his first team debut in a 5-1 Barcelona win over now defunct club AD Ceuta in the Copa del Rey.

Sergi Roberto would be a great addition to Inter Miami’s squad. The 31-year-old would bring versatility, and already has a healthy rapport with Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

Similarly, with Miami in various competitions next season, extra depth in midfield and right-back will be needed.

Inter Miami will end their 2023 season on a low note, failing to make the playoffs. Though the team showed good form on their win to winning the Leagues Cup title in mid-August, they ultimately failed to make the post-season.

That is in large part because of Messi’s hamstring injury. The 36-year-old was relegated to the bench during four out of Miami’s last five games, as he raced back to full fitness. In this time period, Inter Miami’s scintillating attack that saw them outscore opponents 25 to 11 in the summer, fizzled.

The overreliance on Messi was an issue for the Herons as they struggled to score goals.

Heading into 2024, it would make sense for Inter Miami to bring in a player like Roberto. He brings that Barcelona DNA that the team craves, additionally, he plays in two positions that Miami will look to upgrade in the winter.

All in all, Miami will want to win more silverware next year. If bringing Roberto to the club helps them achieve that, then they may acquire his services.
