Sergio Aguero has said Lionel Messi chose a move Inter Miami over Saudi Arabia due to the comforts such a transfer would give the forward.
Speaking to AS, the former Argentina international predicted that Messi agreed to move to MLS based on the freedoms and quality-of-life opportunities living in Miami would give him and his family over a move to Saudi Arabia.
A travel ambassador for the Middle Eastern state, Messi at one point looked certain to join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante in Saudi Arabia for a world-record contract offer.
However, Messi instead accepted a move to Inter Miami, a transfer that has so far worked out incredibly well for the Argentine, with the forward scoring seven goals in his first four games for the franchise.
Messi has settled well in Florida, and Aguero believes life off the pitch is why his former international teammate made the move. The 35-year-old said: “Between Miami and Saudi Arabia, I think he chose Miami out of comfort.
“Miami is a lovely place, there are a lot of South Americans, and I think he saw it from a family point of view, where I think they can fit in quite well. In Saudi Arabia it could be more complicated, I don’t think he saw any more in it than that.”
