Inter Miami were dealt a hammer blow when they missed out on the signing of former Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos, he has now spoken out on his latest move.

The Herons were closely linked with Ramos but he ultimately decided on a move to Mexican side Rayados de Monterrey.

Despite missing out on Ramos the Herons managed to secure a solid centre-back addition in the form of Maxi Falcon.

Of course, bringing in the quality of Ramos would have been huge for the team’s MLS Cup chances but the World Cup winner highlighted why he chose the Mexican giants over other options.

Ramos found ‘perfect balance’

There was no surprise that when a player like Ramos became available as a free agent many teams across the globe were looking to bring him in.

Despite being 38 the no-nonsense centre-half still has a lot to provide teams at the highest level.

Ramos would have provided Inter Miami with a solid structure ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup debut, he’s already won the tournament four times.

Speaking to Telediario, Ramos spoke out about why he chose Monterrey over other clubs, including Inter Miami: “The truth is that, fortunately, we had opportunities to make decisions about other countries, other clubs, but well, I think Rayados met all the requirements.

“I was looking for at the country level, at the city level, at the security level, at the team level, philosophy, a club that has a lot of ambition, a club that has tremendous expectations ahead of it and well, family has also been an important factor when making the decision and the perfect balance was offered to me by Rayados in everything, in all those small details and nuances that made me not make a decision until today.”

Ramos ‘excited’ by potential Inter Miami clash

While Ramos may not have decided to play his football at Chase Stadium there is no doubt that he has respect for what David Beckham and Javier Mascherano are building.

Inter Miami possess some of the biggest names in world soccer with many of their top stars looking likely to stay.

Lionel Messi is set to sign a new contract while Luis Suarez has already put pen to paper, those two players will be crucial in Inter Miami’s success this campaign.

The Herons have a tough Concacaf Champions League draw against Sporting Kansas City coming up but Ramos is hoping Inter Miami progress to give a chance for him to face them in the tournament.

Ramos said: “I think it is always a luxury and it generates a lot of expectations, a lot of excitement to face the best, Leo (Messi) is one of them, now he is in the MLS, but it allows us to cross paths in the future, but for that, we have to advance step by step and we will see, I don’t know if it will happen, but well no we won’t have any other type of problems in facing a duel with Miami, there are teammates like Jordi Alba, Busquets, there is also Suárez, that would be nice, but we will see when that bull comes, then we will deal with it.”
