Tata Martino has stated that Lionel Messi will be in full Inter Miami training today amid fitness concerns surrounding the forward.

As per journalist Franco Panizo, the Inter Miami manager revealed that both Messi and Jordi Alba will be back in full training today ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Toronto FC.

Martino said: “Both players will train in the full session today with the team and after that we’ll see if they’re available to play and to what extent.”

The former FC Barcelona duo both missed Inter Miami’s trip to Atlanta United where the Herons suffered their first loss in the Messi era, with the forward picking up an injury on international duty.

However, Messi could now be back in time to feature tomorrow for Inter Miami, with the attacker set for a fitness check later today.

Indeed, keeping Messi fit will be key in Inter Miami’s quest to finish in a playoff spot, and Martino has to be careful not to overuse the forward in both training and in MLS fixtures.

One team should not be as reliant on one player as Inter Miami are with Messi, yet a good case can be made about the theory.

The Herons are a better team with the 36-year-old in their ranks, and Messi’s fitness needs to be a top priority for Inter Miami in the coming weeks.

Qualifying for the MLS playoffs could trump winning the Leagues Cup or qualifying for the US Open Cup final, and Inter Miami must do all they can to keep Messi fit.
