Tata Martino has said Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets will both make their Inter Miami debuts this Friday in the Leagues Cup opener against Cruz Azul.
Speaking to journalist Gaston Edul, the MLS coach revealed that Inter Miami’s two new superstar signings will make their first professional outing for the franchise tomorrow against the Liga MX side, with Messi and Busquets both pictured in training this week in Florida.
Martino said when asked if we will soon see Messi and Busquets make their official debuts for Inter Miami: “Leo Messi and Sergio Busquets are going to play on Friday. I don’t know if they start. The first thing I want is for them to take part in training.”

With Jordi Alba also joining Inter Miami, things have never been as exciting for the Florida-based club as they do now. And this Friday could be billed as a historic match for the Herons, with Martino now confirming that Messi and Busquets will feature in some capacity.
Although the odds of both players starting is low, Messi and Busquets getting minutes under their belt after a long summer off will be a good way for the pair to kickstart their Inter Miami careers, with Cruz Azul also ideal opponents for the former FC Barcelona stars.
Messi and Busquets will want to put on a show on their debuts

Messi’s debut for Inter Miami will be viewed as a turning point for soccer in the US, with Busquets’ arrival also just as important given the Spanish midfielder’s incredible resume. And the pair will want to put on a show for their new side this week in the Leagues Cup.
As we know, the duo aren’t here to just pick up a paycheck and leave after a season. Messi and Busquets are here to work and push Inter Miami and MLS to new levels, and a good showing on Friday will do just that in what is the start of a glittering new era for the club.
