Apple TV pundit Taylor Twellman has shot down Inter Miami and Lionel Messi’s chances of creating MLS history by winning all four available trophies.

Expectations are high for the Herons going into the new MLS season, with Inter Miami favorites for MLS Cup, the US Open Cup, Leagues Cup and the CONCACAF Champions League.

With Luis Suarez joining the roster this month alongside Julian Gressel, Inter Miami have arguably best MLS squad every assembled, yet Twellman thinks Tata Martino’s side will fall short on almost everything.

The pundit told Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union podcast: “I can’t believe everyone and their mother has them as title contenders for four trophies. I don’t see it.

“I look at MLS history and the way the league is built on parity and I get it – Alba, Busquets, Suarez and Messi, but those are older players without a ton of tread left on those tyres.”

Twellman added: “A lot of people are saying ‘they’re going to set a record, they’re going to win the Supporters’ Shield’. Let’s see, I think they are up against it.”

Whilst a quintuple might be a stretch too far for Inter Miami, there’s a real chance that the Herons can make history in MLS this season.

Making the play-offs alone could see Inter Miami have one hand on MLS Cup heading into the post-season, and the Champions League could see the entire squad fired up next month.

Moreover, if Inter Miami can do the impossible and keep their star players fit for the entire season, there’s realistically no club who can stop the Herons in America from winning it all.

Indeed, Inter Miami will likely falter in at least one competition this season, yet Messi and company have the quality to make history this year, and fans will be expecting such.
