Lionel Messi posted on his Instagram page a sentimental tribute to his first season with Inter Miami.
Broadcasted to his 489 million followers, Messi detailed the team’s year, touching on their US Open Cup run, talking about their Leagues Cup win, and thanking the fans for being supportive through everything: “I would like to thank all the people of the club and the city of Miami for the support they always give us. I am sure that we will continue to have incredible moments together as we have had in the last few months.”
Alongside Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Messi joined Inter Miami in the summer to a raucous fan base. This saw the team get pushed into the upper echelon of world football.
The club’s immediate success during its Leagues Cup title run made them the talk of the league. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t keep that momentum up as they failed to make the playoffs.
Based on his Instagram post, Messi seems content with the way the year ended and looks forward to coming back stronger in 2024.
Messi looks towards 2024

The arrival of Messi at Inter Miami in the summer brought a seismic shift to the perception of US football.
It not only put Miami on the map but also the league as a whole.
With 2024 on the horizon, and Messi not going back to Barcelona on loan, the Argentine will get adequate rest and recovery as Miami looks to add to its trophy cabinet next year.
Ultimately, Messi’s Instagram post summed it up well. This season had its share of beautiful moments and letdowns. The squad had the opportunity to win two trophies this year but succeeded in winning just one. As they look back at 2023, the Herons will be proud of what they’ve accomplished despite a lopsided roster.
With Messi looking forward to 2024, expect Miami to be one of the top teams to challenge for MLS Cup.
