While Inter Miami fans will be excited by the team’s two new additions from the 2025 MLS SuperDraft they could have had a third.
The Herons selected midfielder Bailey Sparks with the 52nd overall draft pick and striker Michael Appiah with the 82nd.
Javier Mascherano’s side was handed the 22nd overall pick but gave up their first-round pick to Los Angeles FC.
This came as a shock to many considering Inter Miami has recently lost some star names including Diego Gomez to Brighton and Leo Campana joined the New England Revolution in a record deal.

Trade with LAFC explored
Going into the SuperDraft LAFC did not have a selection in this year’s event, and it was expected that they would happily go without one.
However, the side made a late trade with Inter Miami to secure a first-round draft selection.
With their selection, they went with striker Alex Hughes who is tied for fifth place for single-season goals at UMass with 15.
The striker was ranked third nationally with his 15 goals and started all 19 games for his side. He also scored a team-high three game-winning goals.
In exchange for giving up the spot Inter Miami have received the following:
- $50,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money
- Natural second-round pick in the MLS SuperDraft 2026 from LAFC.
The Herons’ General Allocation Money is certainly building up as they received $3.25 million in GAM and an additional $750k in conditional GAM hinging on performance-based incentives for the sale of Campana.

Inter Miami fans left confused by trade decision
While it is pretty common for sides to trade slots in the SuperDraft the move by Inter Miami did come as a bit of a surprise to fans.
The trade was mainly met by confusion by the Herons fans when the club announced the decision on their social media channels.
Replying to the post one fan said: “Just start signing players.”
Another commented: “Please explain in simple terms.”
One more said: “Can we consider improving our squared more so in the backline.”
While many were left confused one fan pointed out the side’s clear aim to acquire GAM.
The fan said: “Obviously on a mission to stock up as much GAM as possible. Won’t be surprised to see Gressel and possibly Drake and/or Taylor traded next for more MLS funny money and international roster spots. Gonna be a wild offseason.”
With Inter Miami now appearing to have a hefty amount of GAM to their name fans will be hoping to see some new arrivals enter Chase Stadium.
