Inter Miami had a historic 2023.
From signing Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, the Herons have skyrocketed into the forefront of global soccer.
The team also won its first trophy in club history with the Leagues Cup title in August. Despite failing to make the playoffs, this season will be looked back on with fond memories.
During these triumphs, several players made their mark on the club. Whether it be scoring spectacular goals, keeping the tempo in midfield, or being the last line of defense, Miami has a squad of players that will be capable of challenging for MLS next year.
As 2024 quickly approaches, let’s review the 2023 season and break down the four players that stood out among the rest.
The four Inter Miami players that impressed this year
Inter Miami had a myriad of players that played well in 2023.
The obvious first name on the list would be Messi.
Signed in the summer, the Argentine immediately gave Miami the attacking boost it needed. His high footballing IQ and knack for scoring helped Miami to the Leagues Cup trophy. The 36-year-old ended the year with 14 G/A in all competitions.
Sticking with the attack, Facundo Farias may have only played 11 games for Miami, but the youngster had a monster year in 2023. Brought into the club from Colon, Farias showed bursts of attacking energy. Though inconsistent at times, the Argentine will have a breakout year in 2024.
Another player that stood out this season was goalkeeper Drake Callender. The US international was a rock between the sticks for Miami as he came up with key saves throughout the season.
Finally, and perhaps the player who gained the most notoriety, is Robert Taylor. The Finland international made the ideal strike partner for Messi, as he seamlessly blended in with the Argentine’s playing style. The 29-year-old recently signed a contract extension with the Herons that will keep him at the club til the end of the 2024 season.
Whatever the next year brings, these four players will make a big impact on Inter Miami.
