Inter Miami capped off a historic 2023 with a 2-1 loss at home vs. NYCFC.
Despite the less-than-ideal ending, the Herons will look back on the year with pride for what they accomplished.
The 2023 season started off well for Miami. The then-Phil Neville-led side managed upset wins over two Eastern Conference clubs that finished in the top four in 2022, the Philadelphia Union and CF Montreal.
At that point in the season, there was talk that Inter Miami could even go on to win the Supporters Shield. Unfortunately, the good momentum ended briefly after that.
Injuries to key players and poor tactics saw the Herons drop to the bottom of the Eastern Conference by early June, which led to Neville’s dismissal.
Inter Miami’s front office would subsequently hire Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino on June 28th, then go on to acquire Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba shortly thereafter.
The superstar trio would lead Miami to its first title in club history in the summer, but would just miss out on the post-season in the latter half of the year.
Inter Miami’s plans for 2024

Inter Miami ended 2023 hungry for more.
As 2024 quickly approaches, many players would like to add to the team’s trophy cabinet.
Messi spoke about the squad’s ambition to win more silverware before their November 10th match vs. NYCFC: “We are going to continue enjoying and winning titles. I hope you accompany us as you accompanied us all these months that I’ve been here.”
With the Argentine ready to bring more glory to the club in his second season and the reports that striker Luis Suárez could be imminently joining the team, Inter Miami will be dangerous.
Whatever happens in the next month, expect the Herons to build a team that’s able to contest for MLS Cup.
