David Beckham is reportedly interested in bringing former Manchester United superstar David De Gea to Inter Miami.

According to the Daily Star, the 33-year-old Spanish goalkeeper is being eyed by the Herons owners with De Gea still a free-agent having left Old Trafford this summer when his contract expired.

The shot-stopper was United’s no. 1 keeper for the best part of ten years, though since leaving the Red Devils, De Gea is yet to sign for a new club despite his immense reputation.

With Saudi Arabia off the table, Inter Miami are now a legitimate option for De Gea, with Beckham keen to bring the former Spanish international to Florida for next season.

Indeed, with MLS’ salary and roster rules expected to change heading into 2024, De Gea could be a realistic signing for the Herons as we creep towards the January window.

However, with other positions clearly in need of quality and Drake Callender one of Inter Miami’s best players last year, using limited funds on De Gea could be a poor decision from Beckham.

Inter Miami should steer clear of signing De Gea

Few MLS clubs are willing to use up a Designated Player spot on a goalkeeper, especially when they already have superstars on their roster.

As a result, De Gea for Inter Miami would make little sense, especially with rumors circulating that Luis Suarez will soon sign for Lionel Messi’s franchise in the coming weeks.

With the Herons now the most attractive club outside of Europe, Inter Miami have to be cautious with what they spend their salary cap on in the winter.

And De Gea would be an unusual move, with such a transfer also a massive disservice to Callender, who was nothing short of exceptional last season between the sticks.
