Gremio have officially announced the signing of Diego Costa as their replacement for Luis Suarez, who moved to Inter Miami earlier this year.
The Uruguay international left the Brazilian giants at the end of last year after Suarez’s contract with Gremio expired, with the veteran attacker making the move to Inter Miami.
With nearly 40 goal contributions last season for Gremio, replacing Suarez was going to be no small feat, yet a successor from Premier League history has been found.

As per the club’s official website, former Chelsea superstar Costa has been signed by Gremio, with the attacker tasked with replacing Suarez and the goals the forward has taken with him to Inter Miami.
One of the biggest characters in recent Premier League history, Costa’s reputation as an aggressive, no-nonsense struck fear into defenders from England to Spain.
And as a replacement for Suarez, Costa could be a good option for Gremio, though it’s clear Inter Miami still got the right end of the entire transfer episode between the two clubs.
Gremio signing Diego Costa won’t be enough to replace Inter Miami’s Luis Suarez

Despite being younger than Suarez, it’s hard to imagine Costa being enough on his own to replace the goals Gremio have lost in the Uruguayan making the move to Inter Miami.
The former Spanish international has failed to maintain the level of goalscoring that once made Costa one of the most feared strikers in Europe during his peak years with Chelsea and Atletico.
And at Gremio, the Brazilian giants will need more than Costa if they’re to replace the insane output Suarez delivered last season, with Inter Miami hoping for similar numbers this season.
