Inter Miami attempt to convince 32-year-old superstar to join

Inter Miami want Eden Hazard this summer, and have made an attempt to try and convince the Belgium international to join the club.

The 32-year-old is currently a free agent, having had his contract at Real Madrid terminated, and his next steps are currently unclear.

The winger had such a disastrous time at Real Madrid that retirement from soccer may not have been ruled out following his departure, but Miami are hoping that he will accept an offer to move to the United States.

Hazard scored just seven times in 76 games for Los Blancos since his $100m move from Chelsea in 2019, and he will go down as one of the club’s worst-ever signings considering the fee, and his reputation prior to his move.

A report from Relevo has claimed that the Madrid flop is being eyed up by Inter Miami, but he has a choice between following Lionel Messi to the club, or returning to his native Belgium.

Could Miami sign Hazard?

There are also a number of obstacles for Miami to overcome if they are to facilitate his signing. The MLS allows each team to have three ‘designated’ players, who can earn outside of the salary cap.

Josef Martinez and Rodolfo Pizarro currently occupy two of the spots, but with Messi, Sergio Busquets and potentially Jordi Alba arriving, there may be no more room for a designated player.

Martinez and Pizarro may be downgraded from their status to make room for Hazard, or he could sign within the salary cap, but this would represent a massive paycut on the vast salary he was receiving in Madrid.

Miami are currently bottom of the table, and if Hazard can come in and rediscover some of his form, they could find themselves climbing back up the league. However, the lack of space for another big player, coupled with Hazard’s complete lack of form and fitness, means that it is unlikely that the Belgian will make a successful move to the DRV PNK Stadium.
