Inter Miami are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign MLS Cup-winning free-agent Julian Gressel having been released by the Columbus Crew.
The 30-year-old wide player is regarded by many as one of the best in his position MLS has seen in some years, with Gressel getting his breakthrough at Atlanta United under Tata Martino.
Germany-born but now a member of the USMNT camp, Gressel also starred for the Crew this year as Wilfried Nancy’s side went all the way in MLS Cup to be crowned champions of the 2023 season.
And now, according to the Athletic’s Tom Bogert, Inter Miami are closing in on a deal to sign Gressel, which will reunite the versatile winger with Martino in Florida.
Lauded by MLS’ official website as an ‘elite’ wide-creator, the addition of Gressel will add a lot of attacking power and defensive stability to Inter Miami’s flank.
And whilst attention is firmly on Luis Suarez’s move to Florida, Gressel’s decision to head to Inter Miami could be one of the best moves the Herons make this off-season.
Julian Gressel could be a dream signing for Inter Miami

Whilst Inter Miami are now all about the big-name signing to accompany Lionel Messi and company, the front office also have to be making deals that can make the squad a functioning unit.
And Gressel would be just that, with the winger-come-fullback one of the best in MLS and an established player in the division for the likes of Atlanta, DC United and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Moving to Inter Miami is now a dream move for many MLS-based players, and Gressel has earnt his move to Florida on merit, with Martino clearly a fan of the 30-year-old.
