Inter Miami reportedly have former River Plate midfielder Enzo Perez on their radar after the 37-year-old’s release from the Argentine club.

The veteran maestro is a well-known in the game having been a mainstay for the likes of Benfica and Valencia in recent years, with Perez spending the last six seasons at River Plate.

Having been released by the club at the start of this year upon the expiration of his contract, Perez is now looking for one last big move to wrap up his career, and MLS could be a destination.

Argentina-based publication M1 report that Inter Miami are interested in signing Perez, with former River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo also keen on bringing the midfielder to Saudi Arabia side Al-Ittihad.

With Perez a former international teammate of Lionel Messi, there’s an obvious appeal to move to Florida to reconnect with the 36-year-old superstar, as well as Tata Martino.

However, given how alluring Saudi Arabia could be and the chance to work under Gallardo, Inter Miami could struggle in this latest transfer battle.

Having already recruited Luis Suarez, midfield and defence are the two areas Inter Miami have to focus on signing with the January window now fully open.

Added quality in both positions will be huge in Martino leading the Herons to the MLS play-offs, and whilst Perez would fill in this quote for the midfield, the Argentine is hardly the best option.

After all, the South American is well into the twilight of his career, and for Inter Miami, a dynamic midfielder to partner Sergio Busquets should be what they’re looking to sign this month.
