Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas has ruled out the idea that Lionel Messi could sign for former club FC Barcelona on loan.

Speaking on the Offside podcast with Taylor Twellman, the MLS official shot down the potential transfer of Messi to Barcelona on loan, with the Argentine forward consistently linked with a move back to the European giants.

Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after financial problems mixed with La Liga salary rules meant the forward was unable to sign a new contract with the club, forcing him out and leading him to a two-year stint with PSG.

With Messi now at Inter Miami, rumors are circulating that the forward could one day return to Barcelona on loan. However, Mas has now made it clear that such a transfer won’t happen.

However, the Herons owners is completely aware that Messi needs closure on his Barcelona career, with Mas saying about the Inter Miami captain: “He’s not going to go on loan there.

“That’s not going to happen. Yes, he deserves his correct goodbye there. Yes, and I will do everything in my power in order to facilitate and help him do that because he’s deserving of that.”

Messi’s departure from Barcelona in 2021 was one of the most heartbreaking moments in recent soccer history, yet Inter Miami could give their Argentine superstar the ending he deserves by arranging a fixture for the forward.

Inter Miami have already faced Barcelona in a summer friendly, a game then-manager Phil Neville embarrassingly labeled the biggest match in the Heron’s entire history.

Regardless of the past, Messi and Barcelona deserve the ending that everyone wants to see, and Inter Miami should be looking at how to make such an event happen in the next two to three years.
