Inter Miami have made yet another historic signing, bringing in former Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba to join Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi.

The Spain international has been linked with the club for weeks, but is finally set to be announced as another marquee signing from Jorge Mas and David Beckham.

Messi and Busquets are expected to make their debuts on Friday, but Alba may have to wait longer before he can come in and help make an impact at Miami, as the 34-year-old is expected to be ready in time to face Atlanta next Tuesday.

Miami are still rock bottom of the Eastern Conference, and have failed to win in their last eleven matches.

Alba will be formally announced as a Miami player in due course, but he is not expected to be a designated player, with the three spots currently occupied by Messi, Busquets and forward Josef Martinez.

What impact can Alba have at Miami?

The defender has been a key player for Barcelona for over a decade, winning nearly every trophy on offer since joining from Valencia in 2012.

The left-back was renowned for his pace going forward, and linked up particularly well with Messi, as the Argentinian would spot his off-ball runs into the box and aim passes at him.

Alba was first choice at Barcelona until youngster Alejandro Balde overtook him in the pecking order last year, but he is still a Spain international, and could still appear at the Euros next year.

Miami have conceded 36 times in 22 league games, and having an accomplished defender like Alba could be of real benefit to Gerardo Martino.

Alba played under Martino at Barcelona for one season, making 26 appearances and providing two assists during the 2013-14 season, and will be reunited with the Argentinian in Miami.
