Inter Miami will reportedly decide today on whether or not they want to sign Boca Juniors defender Marcelo Weigandt.

The 24-year-old right-back has been strongly linked with a move to Florida in recent days, with reports suggesting that Boca Juniors don’t expect Weigandt to play for the club again amid recent links to Inter Miami.

Despite all parties wanting a deal to be completed, the Argentine giants have been difficult sellers for the MLS franchise to work with, with Boca Juniors placing a $1m price tag on Weigandt.

And according to journalist Davide Masi, Inter Miami will decide today if they’re going to pursue with the signing of Weigandt, with the Herons having other right-back targets.

Lauded by PlanetaBoca as an ‘exceptional’ defender, Weigandt would be the perfect signing for Inter Miami after DeAndre Yedlin’s trade to FC Cincinnati last week.

The Herons have the salary space to make the signing possible and another Argentine at Inter Miami would be welcome for the likes of manager Tata Martino and star player Lionel Messi.

However, given how much Boca Juniors are demanding for Weigandt, there’s a real chance that Inter Miami might give up on their pursuit for the defender in the coming hours.

With Weigandt’s contract expiring in three months and the defender not even expected to play, Boca Juniors’ $1m demand for the fullback seems excessive, to say the least.

The 24-year-old is eager to leave the club for Inter Miami, and with the Herons now growing frustrated with Boca Juniors’ stance on Weigandt, the Argentine side must consider a rethink.

Indeed, an unhappy player is something no club wants, and the sooner Weigandt is sold, the better off all parties will be, especially Inter Miami, who will finally have a new right-back.
