Inter Miami to rival Club America in battle to sign ‘powerful’ Mexico international

Inter Miami are reportedly set to challenge Liga MX giants Club America for the signing of a top Mexico international.

The Herons have been going about their business in the summer transfer window quietly, with Inter Miami so far only signing David Martinez on loan from River Plate, who has been immediately thrown into the starting XI.

Whilst Inter Miami have been linked with the likes of Sergio Ramos, it appears that a superstar name won’t be coming to Florida this summer, much to the dismay of supporters hopeful of seeing someone big make their move to Chase Stadium.

Yet Inter Miami could now be about to do just that but for a different market.

Inter Miami showing interest in Mexico international Cesar Montes

According to TV Azteca, Inter Miami are keen on signing Almeria defender and Mexico international Cesar Montes, with the Herons joined by Club America in the battle to sign the 27-year-old.

Noted by Marca as a ‘powerful’ center-back, Montes is a well-known name amongst Mexican soccer fans having made 47-caps for El Tri, with the defender featuring at the 2022 FIFA World Cup under current Inter Miami manager Tata Martino.

With Montes’ time in Europe seemingly coming to an end this summer, a return to North America is on the cards for the former Monterrey superstar, with Club America already having a bid rejected for the defender.

Yet with Inter Miami now interested and in a position to put up a good offer for Montes, the Florida franchise could make a statement with a move for the Mexico international, who could be open to moving to MLS.

Herons could become unstoppable if they sign Montes

The signing of Martinez has already elevated Inter Miami’s defense up by a considerable amount despite playing just two games, yet adding Montes to the mix could truly make the Herons unstoppable.

The Mexico international is yet to hit his prime and has already achieved so much in his career despite playing most of his best soccer in Liga MX, with Montes good enough to stay in Europe this summer.

Yet if Inter Miami can beat Club America to Montes’ signature, the Florida giants could finally become the best team in North America, with a top-class defender the last thing the Herons are missing from their squad.
