Inter Miami’s winter transfer window could be starting early.

According to a report by TYC Sports journalist German Garcia Grova, Gremio and Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is set to leave the team before the 2024 season.

Gremio manager Renato Gaucho echoed the reporting, confirming that the forward will leave the team.

Suarez joined the Brazilian side in late December of 2022, after a 14-game stint with boyhood club Nacional in Uruguay. The 36-year-old enjoyed a fruitful time with the Tricolor, netting 15 goals in 33 games, including scoring a hattrick on his debut in a 4-1 win over Sao Luiz in the 2023 Recopa Gaucha.

Inter Miami reportedly attempted to bring the striker to the team during the summer transfer window but nothing concrete was submitted.

Miami owner Jorge Mas had this to say when asked about bringing Suarez to South Florida: “I don’t know how Luis Suarez can leave Gremio. But if he does, we are free to talk to Luis and bring him to Inter Miami, that possibility would be there.”

Should Inter Miami attempt to lure Suarez to the club once more, the Uruguayan would reunite with ex-teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

Suarez’s performances with Gremio suggest he can still play at a high level, although in limited quantities. With Inter Miami in several competitions next year including the US Open Cup and the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the Herons will need depth and experience in every position, especially at center forward.

Miami has made it known that they’re interested in the Uruguayan’s services. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t bring him to South Florida due to his contract at Gremio.

With the winter transfer window quickly approaching, Inter Miami will want to revamp their attack so that they’re not so reliant on Messi. Adding Suarez to a front line that includes young forward Leonardo Campana, and winger Facundo Farias will give head coach Tata Martino a plethora of options in attack.
