Luis Suarez has confirmed that he will leave Gremio one year earlier amid growing rumors that Inter Miami want to sign the Uruguay superstar.

Speaking to the press via the Athletic, the former FC Barcelona striker revealed that the Brazilian club have agreed to end his contract early, allowing Suarez to join Inter Miami for free at the end of this year.

Suarez’s contract with Gremio was due to expire in December 2024. However, the club have now reached a mutual agreement with the forward to end his deal at the end of this year.

Suarez said: “I feel that next year I will not be able to perform due to my fitness and the high demands of the Brazilian championship, which is why the club and I have spoken about ending my contract a year early.”

Such a bombshell will be music to Inter Miami’s ears, with Suarez now in the clear to sign for Tata Martini’s side as a free agent having missed out on the striker this summer.

With Suarez one of Lionel Messi’s best-ever attacking partners, the striker being available for transfer at the end of this year could be huge for Inter Miami, with a transfer potentially making the Florida franchise MLS Cup favorites for 2024.

Inter Miami already have an outside chance of securing their first-ever trophy this season in the form of the Leagues Cup and US Open Cup, yet the arrival of Suarez could see Messi’s side go one step further.

MLS Cup remains Inter Miami’s prime objective with Messi in their squad, and adding Suarez to their ranks could make Martino’s squad one of the clear favorites for the title next year.

Indeed, Inter Miami still have plenty of work to do on and off the pitch, but signing Suarez will be one of the biggest moves the club can make in January, and the forward can inspire the Herons to silverware in 2024.
